Admission Requirements

Del Mar College uses an applicant’s Social Security number as a permanent reference number. An applicant without a Social Security number may either obtain one, or the Office of the Registrar will assign a unique matriculation number upon request.

All students are eligible to take advantage of Web registration as long as all admission requirements are met. Five working days are required to prepare completed admission files for Web registration.

First Time College Students

In order to register, you must have a complete admission file. Your admission file consists of the following documents required by various federal and state agencies and Del Mar College:

  1. All students must complete the Application for Admission to Del Mar College either online through the Texas Common Application Web site at www.applytexas.org (click on “Create a new 2 year application”) or by completing a paper application which can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
  2. Provide official high school transcript or GED test scores.
  3. Meet assessment requirements.* Contact the Testing Office at (361) 698-1645 if you need testing.
  4. Show proof of Texas residency.
  5. You must see an advisor before registering for classes. See advising page for further instructions.

Returning Students (12-Month or More Absence)

In order to register, you must have a complete admission file. Your admission file consists of the following documents required by various federal and state agencies and Del Mar College:

  1. All students must complete the Application for Admission to Del Mar College either online through the Texas Common Application Web site at www.applytexas.org (click on “Create a new 2 year application”) or by completing a paper application which can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
  2. Provide official transcripts to the Office of Admissions for any college(s) you have attended since your last enrollment at Del Mar College.
  3. Show proof of Texas residency.
  4. Meet assessment requirements.*
  5. If you have less than 24 semester
    hours, you must see an advisor.

Continuing Students
  1. Make sure that your admission file is complete and your record is clear of all holds.
  2. If you have less than 24 college-level semester hours, you must see your advisor to register (see Advising).

Transfer Students

  1. All students must complete the Application for Admission to Del Mar College either online through the Texas Common Application Web site at www.applytexas.org (click on “Create a new 2 year application”) or by completing a paper application which can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
  2. Provide official transcripts to the Office of Admissions for any college(s) you have attended.
  3. If you have no college credit, you must send an official high school transcript.
  4. Show proof of Texas residency.
  5. Meet assessment requirements.*
  6. If you have less than 24 college-level semester hours, you must see an advisor.

Transient Students (attending Del Mar
for the summer only)
  1. All students must complete the Application for Admission to Del Mar College either online through the Texas Common Application Web site at www.applytexas.org (click on “Create a new 2 year application”) or by completing a paper application which can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
  2. Provide official college transcripts to the Office of Admissions from the most recent college you have attended.
  3. Provide assessment scores.
  4. If you are a former Del Mar student, you only need to complete the application for admission.
Dual-Credit Students (High School)
  1. Contact your high school counselor for eligibility.
  2. Complete the Dual Credit application form.
  3. Complete the Application for Admission to Del Mar College either online through the Texas Common Application Web site at www. applytexas.org (click on “Create a new 2 year application”) or by completing a paper application which can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
  4. Provide an official high school transcript.
  5. Meet assessment requirements.*
