This means the ideal employee will have a diverse knowledge of the legal profession plus the ability to draft and produce legal documents and to conduct legal research using a variety of computer programs.The Legal Professions curriculum will involve a core curriculum for the first three semesters with students taking specialized courses for either the Paralegal Program or Legal Secretary Program beginning with the second semester. Graduates of either specialty will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree.Legal Secretary SpecializationThe Legal Professions-Legal Secretary Specialty degree prepares you to enter the workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful. Students learn through hands-on experience using state of the art technology regarding law office practices. The program includes a practicum in which students gain practical experience interning in a law office. Students learn how to do legal research in the law library as well as on the Internet.Students draft many varied legal documents commonly used in the law practice using ProDoc legal document assembly software. In addition, students learn docketing, calendaring, billing, timekeeping, law office management, and litigation support systems using Small Office Systems and other software.Paralegal SpecializationThe Legal Professions-Paralegal Specialty degree is a two-year degree designed to provide students hands-on experience regarding law office practices.
