DMC Complies with State’s Campus Carry Law and Provides Informational Resources

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

In 2015, the Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 11 that requires all public community colleges to allow concealed handguns to be carried on college property by licensed individuals. The state law requires Del Mar College to allow concealed handguns to be carried on campus and in campus facilities, except in limited, designated areas.

The law took effect Aug. 1, 2017.

The DMC Campus Carry Policy Development Committee presented to the Board of Regents their recommendations for compliance with legislation, and the Board approved Policy B 10.1 on May 9. 2017. Make yourself familiar with the DMC Board of Regents policy regarding campus carry.

You can also access the College’s  Campus Carry web pages for more information at www.delmar.edu/campuscarry/.

Texas Senate Bill 11 and the corresponding Del Mar College Board of Regents policy ONLY allow concealed carry of firearms by non-law enforcement licensed holders. Open carry is still prohibited on Del Mar College campuses and properties at all times.

If you see a firearm displayed openly on campus, immediately contact DMC Security at 361-698-1199.
