Determined to earn their high school equivalency kept Del Mar College’s General Education Development (GED) Class of 2012 going. Beating the odds made their lives challenging after dropping out of high school for various reasons.

On Thursday, June 21, about 110 graduates out of 167 students who completed the College’s GED program since last July took center stage to receive their long-awaited certificates as family and friends cheered them on.

Dr. Roland Quezada, Director for School Leadership Services with the Corpus Christi Independent School District, gave the keynote address.

The College’s GED Program provides developmental education––including basic academic, language and personal skills study––to students ineligible or unprepared to enter college credit courses. Students prepare to take and pass the GED test to earn their certificate, which is the equivalent of a high school diploma, while preparing for college.
