Jewel of the Bayou Leroy Thomas and his Zydeco Roadrunners Returning as Entertainment During Annual Crawfish Boil

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

Ayeeeeeee! It’s that time of year, again. The Del Mar College Foundation and Trustee Emeritus Bernie Paulson are calling all Cajuns and those “Cajun at heart” to join them for one hot sauce of a party! Enjoy the flavors of the bayou from crawfish to Zydeco music during the sixth annual “Bernie’s Famous Crawfish Boil” on Friday, April 4, to raise funds for DMC student scholarships.

And, it’s famous for a reason!

The all-you-can-eat crawfish boil runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Concrete Street Old Market Pavilion, 717 Power Street. The event also features a silent auction, demonstrations by Del Mar College faculty and students and other fun activities.

“Our annual Crawfish Boil is the signature event for the Del Mar College Foundation and held to raise much needed support for student scholarships,” says Mary McQueen, Executive Director of Development and the Del Mar College Foundation. “Proceeds provide Coastal Bend students who need financial assistance the opportunity to access the Del Mar College education they need for the jobs they want. Everyone wins––students and their families, the community and our workforce.”

The all-you-can-eat menu includes crawfish, shrimp and sausage, along with all the fixings (veggies), and host beer, wine, sodas and open bar. Individuals are asked to purchase tickets or RSVP by Thursday, April 3. Individual tickets are $150 per person. Table/scholarship sponsorships are also available as follows: $1,500 as a “Claw” sponsor, $2,500 as a “Heads & Tails” sponsor, $5,000 as a “Ragin’ Cajun” sponsor, $10,000 as a “Hot Stuff” sponsor and $25,000 as a Bernie’s Ultimate “Bayou” sponsor.

He’s become the party regular. Accordionist Leroy Thomas, best known as the “Jewel of the Bayou,” and his Zydeco Roadrunners will return to serve up his unmatched repertoire that mixes Zydeco, Cajun, Blues, R&B and Country music with his own innovative, funky, hard-driving sound.
