The goals for the program are:Prepare individuals for entry-level positions in accounting by providing students with basic accounting skillsUpdate and expand skills of those already working in the accounting/bookkeeping ﬁeldOffer courses that will appeal to members of the community as personal enrichmentThe objective of the Paraprofessional Accountant curriculum is to prepare a person for an entry-level position in an accounting office or department. Students have the option of a Certificate or Associate in Applied Science Degree. Students also have the opportunity to work with Junior Achievement and the Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program.Area universities offer Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degrees and work with students to continue their education. Students seeking to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) should follow the Business Administration transfer degree plan. The Accounting Program has received a rating of “exemplary” by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
