Dr. Loyd Poplin
Current Position: Professor Emeritus
First and foremost, Professor Emeritus Dr. Loyd Poplin is a chemistry teacher. But Dr.
Poplin’s passion for teaching and making connections with his students
extends far beyond his exemplary classroom teaching methods as his
colleagues and students would attest.
Over the course of 38 years at Del Mar College (DMC), Dr. Poplin chaired
his department, served as faculty advisor for several Registered
Student Organizations (RSOs), presented numerous lectures for the
department’s Natural Science Seminar Series, contributed several
articles to various academic journals in the nutrition field and several
popular health magazines, published a regular column called “Fitness
Forum” for the DMC student newspaper, The Foghorn, and even successfully
developed and taught a class outside his original area of expertise,
“Nutrition in Dentistry.”
For his exemplary tenure and good works at the College, Dr. Poplin was named the ninth recipient of the prestigious Dr. Aileen Creighton
Award for Teaching Excellence, an award highly prized by faculty at DMC.
