SERVICE UNITS Several support service units comprise the Department of Physical Facilities to provide necessary services to ensure a safe, pleasant, and comfortable learning and working environment. The Department is also responsible for supporting after-hours and special events, emergency responses, and construction services. Service units are under the direction of the Director of Physical Facilities and Assistant Director, with supervision provided by the Superintendent and lead personnel. Technicians perform their duties as requested on an approved work request submitted thru the MainSaver® program. If the work is considered an “emergency”, appropriate action is taken.A brief description of the unit responsibilities follows:OFFICE STAFFOffice staff provides general administrative support and communication with the College community and ensures that proper units are notified of service requests. CENTRAL PLANT/HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning)/ENERGY MANAGEMENTTechnicians are responsible for maintaining the central plant and all heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and performing all preventative maintenance necessary to prevent equipment failure; monitor the thermal energy storage system and cooling towers.ELECTRICALElectricians are responsible for planning layout, installation, repairing electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, maintaining according to manufacturer’s specifications.PLUMBINGPlumbers are responsible for installation and maintenance of domestic and sanitary sewer systems according to state and local building codes; and maintenance of the instructional fire safety program equipment.PAINTINGPainters are responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior appearance of the College campus buildings and parking lots; providing necessary painting of rooms, furniture, etc.; producing signage for building interiors and outdoor signs for special events; and striping of parking lots.CARPENTRY/LOCKSMITHCarpenters are responsible for minor building repairs, casework, keys, and other structural components used to support the operations of the physical plant and College facilities.DAY PORTERSDay Porters are responsible for the upkeep of College facilities and set-up during daytime operations.CUSTODIAL and GROUNDSCustodial and Grounds operations are outsourced. The contractor for custodial operations is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all building interiors, and landscaping operations include the upkeep of grounds.
