• Careers and Employment Outlook

Seventy-five percent of people who earn advanced degrees in Sociology work in academia. Many are researchers. The rest teach at a college and university. The remaining twenty-five percent work in applied Sociology where they solve problems for business or government (e.g., The Census Bureau hires many applied sociologists).

Students who earn bachelor’s degrees in Sociology often find work in social service agencies. In any event, a strong background in research methods and statistics is desirable.
