• Update (Jan 23) from Interim VPI

    Faculty:

We have typed all of the questions and comments that were posed at the Spring 2008 Faculty Meeting. The ad hoc committee chairs (promotion and tenure, evaluation, and post-tenure review) are now working on responses with their committees. Once we have the responses, I will send you an e-mail to let you know where the information is posted for your review.

I told you that we would have another faculty meeting, and I am attempting to see if we can work out a date in the very near future. I will let you know as soon as possible.

    Other Items:

    1. All faculty who are up for promotion and/or tenure have submitted their files for review. They have gone through the Chair and Dean review and are now in my office for review. I have read 1/3 of the documents and will complete the review within the next two weeks.
    2. For those of you who are in the pipeline for tenure and/or promotion, I ask that you start organizing your documents in a notebook and to seek counsel from your department chair and your dean regarding what you should be documenting and including in your file.
    3. You should hear from your faculty council reps or your chairs about a proposed policy change that emerged as a result of concerns expressed by Deans, Chairs, and faculty. The proposed changes clarify what transcripts/documents are needed for hiring faculty. We have been requesting transcripts from any college attended, and the proposed changes narrow that to transcripts from colleges that awarded degrees and/or that document course work related to the faculty teaching assignment. The proposed changes were forwarded to the Chairs and to Faculty Council for preliminary review. As soon as we get some input from the chairs and faculty council, I will share the proposed document with the faculty for final review.
    4. We have some faculty who are on action plans related to their credentials. It is important that faculty who are on these action plans take steps to complete the plan and to keep their Chair and Dean informed of their progress.

Hope the rest of your week is a good one.

    Thanks,

    Marjorie
