Compensation for adjunct faculty teaching semester-hour credit courses is paid in four (4) equal payments. All payroll related paperwork such as IRS w-4 form must be completed, signed and turned into Human Resources in order for a check to be processed on your behalf. In the fall semester the payments are made at the end of September, October, November, and December. Grades for the fall semester must be turned in to the Registrar's Office before the December paycheck is released. You would normally received your paycheck through your department chair. You may have your paycheck automatically deposited into your checking or saving account by completing a direct deposit form and submitting a voided check or a voided deposit slip. Having an ID card is essential to obtaining passwords/codes to input student grades, checking out books and use various facilities at the college. In order to obtain an ID card:
a. Call the Security Office ext.1945.
b. Security office hours are as follows:
      Monday - Thursday: 8 - 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., 4 to 5 p.m., and 6 to 7 p.m.
      Fridays: 8 - 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m.

Contact your department chair to assist you in setting a voicemail and email address. Your department chair will request from information technology (IT) the preceding on your behalf.

Textbook selection is the responsibility of the department of the chairperson. In the spring semester, choices are made for the following year, effective September 1. After the text is selected, all members of the department are expected to use it effectively. Additional materials are decided upon and requisitioned within the department. These materials include library books, audio-visuals, equipment, class course packs and supplies necessary for the most effective teaching of the subject.

Faculty are required to submit grades electronically, through the Online Grade Reporting System, by the posted deadline for the regular semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer I, and Summer II) and within two working days after the end of any flex entry course.

The Special Services Office provides support services for students with disabilities, in order to remove obstacles to education in the classroom and promote maximum academic potential and self-sufficiency. Some of the services are: Designated registration time; Interpreter services; Notetakers ; Information and referral; Special parking provisions; Assistive technology and Diagnostic testing services for eligible, registered, Del Mar students. The primary function of evaluation of the faculty member is to assist personal efforts at improving instruction. Evaluation also serves as the basis for personnel action decisions, such as those involving retention, tenure, and promotion. Evaluation includes self-evaluation and various methods of evaluation by the faculty member's students, the Department Chair (hereafter called "Chair" and to be understood as including the Directors of the Learning Resource Center and Counseling and Advising), and Division Dean as set out in these procedural guidelines.

Chairs may schedule evaluations throughout the year. The faculty member shall be free to respond, in writing, to evaluations without fear of retaliation or reprisal.

You are eligible for assigned parking. Assigned parking is available on a pre-paid basis. Costs for spaces may vary. You should contact Environmental Health and Safety office, if you are interested in assigned parking at 698-1267. If you choose not to join the assigned parking program, you may park in general parking areas available in any of the parking lots. One of your greatest resources for handling student issues is your department chair. You should talk with the student to determine if the problem relates to the subject matter or whether there are some other personal issues involved. If the problems have to do with subject matter, you may want to refer the student to the Student development office [located in the Harvin Center, East campus] for tutoring @ ext. 1281). A major resource for students who are having difficulty with their writing skills is the Stone Writing Center. The Center offers free tutoring, both in-person and online, as well as workshops, computers for typing papers, and helpful handouts.

For in-person tutoring, a student schedules an appointment to meet one-on-one for half an hour with a professional tutor. For online tutoring, the student submits a paper or question to the online tutor at tutor@delmar.edu and receives a response within 24-48 hours. Also, workshops are conducted throughout the semester, and computers and handouts are available on a walk-in basis in the Stone Writing Center.
