Learning Resources
(Library & A/V Resources)
- Library Privileges:
- Adjunct faculty members have full user privileges. These include
borrowing privileges at Del Mar College, Coastal Bend College, and
Texas A&M Universities-Corpus Christi and Kingsville. Full-time and
part-time faculty members may retain circulating collection materials
from the Del Mar libraries until faculty notices go out at the end of
each semester. There are different lending lengths for AV and reserve
materials. Borrowers must abide by the loan restrictions of the other
college libraries mentioned. When checking out library materials, all
students, faculty, and staff must show a validated Del Mar College ID
card. Because temporary instructors in some special courses may not be
issued ID cards, special cards based on Del Mar College employee
printouts may sometimes be authorized.
Del Mar College Libraries also provide interlibrary loan services. ILL services are provided by the Access Services department, 698-1932.

- The library's website provides easy access to a variety of electronic resources, web pages, reference resources, and student and faculty information. DMCNet, the library's online catalog, is available from the website.
- Library Handbook:
- Copies of the library handbook, detailing the facilities, services, and collections of both libraries, are available at either library.
- Library Instruction:
- The library's reference staff conducts library instruction sessions for students, highlighting the paper and electronic resources most useful for the classes and subjects being taught. Teachers may request instruction for their classes. Please contact the White Library Reference Department at 698-1311 or the Technical Library at 698-1742 at least one week in advance of the date you wish to have the library instruction session for your class.
- Library Reserve Materials:
- Faculty members may wish to put books, journal articles and other materials on a limited checkout-time reserve. Contact the Access Services desk at the White Library and the Circulation desk at the Technical Library for assistance with reserve materials. Reserve materials are intended to supplement the instructional content of the classroom. Students are responsible for abiding by both library and legal fair use provisions in copying these materials for personal use.
- AV Classroom Delivery Services:
- East Campus: Contact White Library Access Services Desk, 698-1309 or 698-1310
- West Campus: Contact Technical Library Circulation Desk, 698-1753.
Both libraries provide a variety of audiovisual and computer-projection equipment for classroom use. Library workers will deliver this equipment to classrooms. Please schedule this equipment and any needed AV materials as early as possible in the semester. Equipment is limited and provided on a first-ordered, first-served basis. A minimum 24-hour advance notice is needed. Because of staff size and the distance involved, the Library does not provide equipment delivery for the South Campus.
Audiovisual titles are listed in the DMCNet online catalog. When placing an order for AV delivery service, please identify the following:
- Yourself and your instructional area - department, building, and room number where the equipment is to be delivered
- The name, titles, and/or call number of library AV materials needed
- The equipment needed (If you are unsure, please consult with library staff)
- The date the items are needed
- The time the items are needed - the time class begins and the time equipment and/or materials can be picked up by library staff
- The length of time materials will be kept if needed for longer than one day
Guidelines for using library AV delivery services:
- No projectionist can be provided. However, library staff can provide you with operating instructions. Call the appropriate library for assistance prior to using the equipment in your classroom.
- Materials and equipment will be delivered to your classroom. Please do not move any equipment you have borrowed without notifying library staff.
- Video equipment cannot be moved in the rain. If rain prevents delivery of your scheduled equipment, please reschedule for another date.
- Please cancel audiovisual scheduling if your class is cancelled.
- Please preview materials prior to using in your class.
- All materials are available to students for viewing or listening in the libraries. If a student needs to view or review an AV title, please direct the student to the Access Services desk of the appropriate library.
- If there is a PROBLEM with AV service:
- If your setup is not as ordered or if your equipment does not work, call 698-1309 or 1310 on the East campus or 698-1753 on the West campus. Give your name, location, and identify the problem. Assistance will be sent as quickly as possible.
- Room scheduling:
- The White Library (East Campus) has two computer rooms, a large-screen video room, and a lecture room seating up to 100 people available for scheduling for classes or lectures on an occasional use basis. Call Access Services, 698-1309 or 698-1310. The Technical Library (West Campus) has a large room capable of seating up to 100 people and with video viewing capability. Call 698-1753 for reservations.
