Call for Nominations: You may nominate a candidate for more than one category or nominate multiple candidates. Each nomination must be submitted separately. All nominations are confidential. Thank you for your interest in Del Mar College alumni awards. Please read below for more details about the nomination process. Nomination forms and supporting materials for 2013 are due to the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development, Room 131, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15th, 2013. Del Mar College and Del Mar College Foundation will be closed from March 11-15th for Spring Break. Don’t worry…we’ll stock the fax machine (361-698-1257) with paper so keep your award nominations rolling in. Everything postmarked or date stamped via email by March 15th will be considered.
The Process: The Alumni Association solicits nominations for the awards from all members of the College and local community. A committee of the Alumni Association reviews the materials submitted on each candidate and selects those candidates who are deemed most deserving of recognition and whose achievements most closely fit the category for which they have been nominated. All deliberations are kept confidential. Individuals chosen to receive awards are honored each year in a special ceremony. Staff and volunteers involved with the process of selecting award winners are held to the highest ethical standards.
Confidentiality: Please do not inform candidates that they are under consideration since only a limited number of recipients are chosen each year from among many worthy individuals. All deliberations are kept confidential.
Eligibility: To be eligible for nomination, a candidate:
- Must have attended the College and earned credit toward one of its degrees, certificates, or awards (except in the case of the Distinguished Faculty, Staff, and Friend of the College Awards).
- May be a Faculty member for the Faculty Award, regardless of whether they are Del Mar College alumni.
- May be a Staff member for the Staff Award, regardless of whether they are Del Mar College alumni.
- May be a College supporter for the Friend of the College award, regardless of whether they are Del Mar College alumni.
- Cannot currently be an employee of the College (except in the case of the Faculty and Staff Awards) or a member of the awards committee.
- Must be able to participate in the awards celebration. In the case of posthumous nominations, a direct member of the recipient’s family must be able to participate in the awards ceremony.
- Cannot have previously received an award in the category for which the nomination is submitted. However, previous award winners may be nominated for a different category. It is recommended to allow a minimum of three years to pass before nominating a candidate again for another category.
Please review the List of Former Award Recipients. As they have already been recognized as an outstanding alumni through the Wall of Honor, they may not be nominated for the Outstanding Alumni award. They are eligible for all other awards.

Submitting Your Nomination: Make sure you have read the Award Criteria (use the links at the top) and the Eligibility list (directly above). Fully complete the online Nomination Form and submit it. Gather the supporting documentation letters and submit them. Remember that Nomination forms and supporting materials for 2013 are due to the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development, Room 131, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15th, 2013.
Supporting Documentation Letters: Because letters of nomination and support are an integral part of a successful candidate dossier, be sure that you understand the criteria for the award when you write your letters. Make sure that if you are not gathering and submitting support letters yourself, supporters send their letters for 2013 candidates by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on March 15th, 2013. Please note that the quality of the information given is more important than the relative prominence of the writer. Possible contacts include professional colleagues, former students, friends, or fellow volunteers. Letters that comment knowledgeably on the impact of the individual's specific achievements are most important and helpful. Please share the criteria for the award and the suggested list of questions with those who are writing letters in support of your candidate. Nominators and supporters should answer the following general questions in addition to the ones specified for each award category:
- What is your relationship to the candidate, and how have you gained your knowledge of his/her accomplishments?
- How has the individual maintained a connection with the College, its faculty or students, and other alumni?
