MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The Management Information Systems (MIS) curriculum deals with applying information technology to solve business problems. Built on a solid foundation of business and computer courses, the curriculum prepares students to enter an increasingly global business environment with rapidly changing information technology. Our information economy has created the need for a new set of managerial skills and competencies focused around the appropriate use of information technology as a key enabler of business success.

Typical entry-level positions with a bachelor's degree in MIS include application programmer, systems analyst, information analyst, and end user support specialist. In addition to technical topics, the program emphasizes the management of information systems to prepare graduates to assume managerial positions such as Vice President of Information Services. In some companies, information systems are of such strategic importance that managers with an MIS background are becoming chief executive officers.

Students will develop skills in:

  • Electronic business/commerce
  • Knowledge management
  • Enterprise integration

College Transfer

The MIS associate's degree prepares students with the business and technical knowledge to transfer to an upper division university into most Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems degrees. The degree ensures transferability by meeting common core and field of study requirements as set by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Students should check specific requirements of the college or university to which they plan to transfer.
