The Surgical Technology curriculum is designed to offer education to qualified persons who seek employment in the operating room under the supervision and responsibility of a registered nurse. They also aid the circulating nurse in performance of all duties related to the care of patients in the operating room.Certificate: Surgical Technology
Associate in Applied Science Degree: Surgical Technology
The Surgical Technology program operates under the standards of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST). It is recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), 6 West Dry Creek, Suite 210, Littleton, CO 80120-80, (303) 694-9262 or www.arc-st.org. Graduates of this program are entitled to a Certificate of Achievement and are eligible to sit for the national certification examination. Those students passing the examination become Certified Surgical Technologists (CST).
All applicants follow the general admission requirements of the College. In addition to meeting the general College admission requirements, students planning to enter the Surgical Technology program must fulfill the following criteria:
After program acceptance, the student must submit a completed physical examination which includes the complete Hepatitis B series, a current college transcript and a current card of completion in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Health Care Providers which must be maintained throughout the program.
Upon enrollment, the student must pass a background check and drug screen test, at student's expense, for security clearance and continued enrollment in the program.
All subjects listed in the curriculum are required for graduation. Any or all of the academic courses listed may be taken prior to admission into the program. Academic courses not completed before program entry must be taken in the semester listed. Completion of the academic courses enhances student's selection to the program.
