The GED (General Educational Development) certificate is accepted as equivalent to a high school diploma. The GED Program at Del Mar College helps prepare students to take and pass the GED test. Presently, there are five different subtests students must take to get their GED. The five subtests are Literature and Arts/Writing, Literature and Arts/Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. Classes are offered in all areas but special emphasis is placed on reading, writing, and mathematics. The program is designed not only to help students pass their GED test but also to help prepare them for college after they have received their GED. A Transition Liaision is available to work exclusively with program graduates to help them transition into higher education or vocational training.
Classes are offered at the following times:
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday (some classes on Friday)
9:00 a.m. - Noon, Monday-Thursday
6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday (some classes on Friday)

ALL GED CLASSES ARE FREE.
Students must attend a week of orientation before starting GED classes. All students must register at the GED Education Center at 485 Airport Road by the registration deadlines listed below. Students may register 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday or from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
On January 1, 2002 a new version of the GED test was released. If you did not obtain your GED certificate before that date and you had taken and passed some of the tests before January 1, 2002, you are required to start all over again. You will not be able to carry over old test scores. The new GED test requires skills not tested on the old version.
