Del Mar College is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for students to achieve their dreams. As a partner in the Collegiate High School initiative with the Corpus Christi Independent School District, the College serves as the venue for the CHS by providing classrooms and campus resources that will immerse first-year participants into an educational atmosphere mirroring both the high school and higher education experience. This initiative begins with the first class of 100 ninth graders in fall 2006. The CHS will add a new class of ninth graders each year, creating a high school campus encompassing freshman- through senior-level students by 2009. The CHS is designed to serve underserved students attending the campus to earn a high school diploma and an associate's degree, or up to two years of transferable college credit, within four to five years. Participation in the CHS is at no cost to students or their families. The Collegiate High School initiative is made possible through funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Texas High School Project Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas, and local institutional resources from Del Mar College and the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
