REGULAR REGISTRATION FOR NEW ESOL STUDENTS:

1.  FILL OUT AN APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION. 

Fill out the admission application as completely as possible.  Gather any  records from former schools as well as any residency materials (passport, visa, resident card, and/or proof of military affiliation.)

2.  CONTACT MS. BARBARA THOMPSON, ASSISTANT REGISTRAR, FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT STUDENT VISAS.

Ms. Thompson’s office is located in the Harvin Center in Room 220.   Ms. Thompson’s phone
number is at (361) 698-1248 and her e-mail is bthomps@delmar.edu.

3.  TAKE THE CELT (COMPREHENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST).

 The CELT lasts about 2 hours and 15 minutes and is free.  It is not a pass-or-fail test.  The test helps the faculty to know what level of courses a student should take. 

Call the ESOL Lab at (361) 698-1695 or (361) 698-1694 to sign up to take the CELT. Test.  The lab attendant will ask for the student’s name, telephone number, and  date  the student  would like to take the test.  A caller may also leave a voice message for the Coordinator of the ESOL Lab, Ms. Christina Nelson, at (361)698-1694.  Students may also take the test on the days of regular registration.

4.  TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION, YOUR CELT SCORES, HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS, AND ANY  RESIDENCY PAPERS TO THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE IN THE HARVIN CENTER.  

After a student turns in their application for admission, there is a waiting period of 5 to 7 days.  The student’s application is entered into the main computer system and the student is assigned u a student identification number.

5.  BE ADVISED FOR YOUR CLASSES. 

After receiving a student identification number, a student will meet with an ESOL advisor, Nancy M. Steward or Faye G. Frasier, in order to choose the level of  ESOL courses. 

6.  REGISTER FOR YOUR CLASSES.

 The ESOL advisor will register the student in classes.

7.  PICK UP THE PRINTOUT OF YOUR SCHEDULE.

After reviewing your schedule of classes, students will receive a computer printout and go to the Business Office (Cashier) to pay their tuition for their classes or make arrangement for payment.  Students must go to the cashier’s office and pay their tuition, or their enrollment will be cancelled.

8.  HAVE YOUR PICTURE MADE AND RECEIVE A DEL MAR COLLEGE IDENTIFICATION CARD.

This student identification card will enable students to use the White Library, the ESOL Lab, and other facilities on the campus.

9.  ATTEND THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

At the first class meeting, your instructor will provide information about the class as well as the textbooks and supplies that you will need.

10.  COME TO LATE REGISTRATION IF YOU WERE UNABLE TO REGISTER DURING EARLY OR REGULAR REGISTRATION.

 Late registration is available only on the first day of classes from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m.

4.  TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION, CELT SCORES, HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS, AND ANY NECESSARY RESIDENCY PAPERS TO THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE IN THE HARVIN CENTER.   

After a student has turned in their  papers, there will be a waiting period of 5 to 7 days in which an application will be entered into the main computer system.  When an  application has been accepted, the computer system will assign the student an  identification number. The student will use that identification number  to register for classes.

5.  BE ADVISED FOR CLASSES.

ESOL students will meet with the ESOL advisors, Nancy M. Steward or Faye G. Frasier, in order to choose their courses. . 

6.  REGISTER FOR CLASSES. 

The ESOL advisor will register students in their classes.

8.  NOTE THE DUE DATE FOR PAYMENT. 

Students must pay for their classes by the payment due date for early registration, or their registration will be cancelled.
