ABG Initiation

International Business Honor Society of Community, Junior, and Technical Colleges

Alpha Beta Gamma® is an International Business Honor Society established by business professors in 1970 to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students in business curricula. The society is a member of The Association of College Honor Societies and has initiated 65,500 members. It is the sole business honor society for accredited junior, community and technical two year colleges.

The Alpha Psi Chapter at Del Mar College was formed in 1992 by Professor Janie Blankenship of the Business Administration Department.

To be eligible for membership in ABG, a student must be enrolled in a business curriculum in a junior, community, or technical college, or a two-year accredited program within a college or university.

The student must have completed 15 credit hours with at least 12 hours of his or her work taken in courses leading to a degree recognized by his/her institution. In addition, the student must have demonstrated academic excellence by attaining a 3.0 GPA or its equivalent in business courses as well as a 3.0 overall average.

That academic excellence among community, junior and technical college students enrolled in a business curricula may be nurtured, that opportunity may be provided for leadership training and an intellectual climate for ideas and ideals be fostered; and that scholars may be imbued with desire for continuing education, we dedicate ourselves as members of Alpha Beta Gamma. Among us, membership is a privilege earned by qualifications, honor, and service. In conduct of our activities, truth shall be our quest, diligence our staff, and achievement our purpose.

April 8-11, 2018

The DMC Alpha Psi Chapter of ABG attended the 2018 National Leadership Conference in Jekyll Island,  Georgia.

Chapter Advisor Janie Blankenship escorted 5 members: Monica Chavez-Lozano, Jennifer Martinez, Pedro Lopez, Kim Hughes, and Johnny Rodriguez. This year, the DMC Chapter submitted  essay scholarships and conference presentations.

Chapter President,  Monica Chavez-Lozano, won the Cerrone Award, an award presented to a Chapter President who has done an outstanding job rejuvenating a chapter.

Chapter Vice President Jennifer Martinez was awarded the Eva Bobrow Memorial Medallion of Excellence Award for her coordination and participation of this year's fundraiser.

Advisor Janie Blankenship won an award for Best Adviser Presentation.

Alpha Psi Chapter President Monica Chavez-Lozano, was elected to serve as the National President.
