Program Overview

The Sociology Program offers an Associate's Degree at Del Mar College. All majors must take Introductory Sociology and Social Problems and either Marriage and Family or Minority Studies. Sociology majors must also take statistics (PSYC 2317) and an approved computer course (ITSC 1301, ITSC 1309 or COSC 1301). Most Sociology majors transfer to TAMU-CC to complete their bachelor's degree. Non-majors may use any of the sociology courses to fulfill the Social and Behavioral Science elective in Del Mar's Core Curriculum.

Sociology assists the student in becoming more aware of the complex interdependence of that characterize social relationships. It also emphasizes the great diversity found in society whether one considers gender, race & ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or social class.
