The Distance Learning Handbook for Students contains a number of resources that you should find useful while taking Del Mar College courses via distance methods. Distance learning courses are courses that use alternative methods of delivering course content and will have limited or no campus sessions. The vast majority of distance learning courses are delivered over the Internet using WebCT, the course management system in use at Del Mar College since 1998. Other options using distance delivery include telecourses and interactive television, or ITV.

The Distance Learning Student Handbook is broken up into areas that include

  • An overview of distance learning;
  • Self-tests to determine if your learning style is suitable for distance courses;
  • A student success mini-workshop for help in preparing for distance courses;
  • Student services resources;
  • Technology resources and requirements;
  • The DMC Helpdesk where you can find technical assistance;
  • The Virtual College of Texas;
  • And general information on distance learning opportunities.

There is also a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section with answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding distance learning and support services.
