The following learning technologies are available at Del Mar College for use by faculty. Workshops on the use of these tools are held regularly at the Teaching and Learning Center, East Campus White Library. WebCT: WebCT is an online course management system that is used to manage the functions of a face-to-face or a fully online course. WebCT allows the instructor can deliver course content, post grades, send email, provide multiple means of interaction using discussion boards and e-mail, maintain a course calendar, allow uploading and downloading of assignment files, and deliver online exams.

WebCT can be used to deliver courses totally online or using a hybrid (reduced-seat) concept. However, by far the most common use of WebCT at Del Mar College is the blended approach, where the instructor uses elements of WebCT to enhance their seat-based courses. This is typically done by posting syllabi online, hosting a discussion board, class calendar, and online quizzing.

Respondus: Respondus is a tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to WebCT. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment such as MS Word . Respondus can save a significant amount of time when creating and editing quizzes.

MediaSite Live: Mediasite Live allows instructors to capture their classroom lectures, including PowerPoint presentations, and place them within their WebCT course for later viewing. The process is very simple and involves plugging your computer containing the PowerPoint presentation and pushing a button to start the recording. The resultant recording includes the instructor image, the PowerPoint presentation, and a catalog of slides. See a demonstration.

Impatica for PowerPoint: Impatica for PowerPoint makes it easy to add narrated presentations to your Web-based courses. Students can access your presentations to essentially any Internet device without plug-ins and even at normal modem speeds. Impatica for PowerPoint does this by converting the PowerPoint file into a compressed format that is optimized for streaming over the Internet. An Impatica file is typically 95% smaller than PowerPoint HTML files. Impatica for PowerPoint supports most of the features of PowerPoint, including text, graphics, transitions, animation effects and, of course, narration. Impatica files can be delivered:

TurnItIn: Turnitin is a comprehensive plagiarism prevention system that allows instructors to quickly and effectively check student writing submissions in a fraction of the time necessary to scan a few suspect papers using a search engine. Every paper submitted is returned in the form of a customized Originality Report. Results are based on exhaustive searches of billions of pages from both current and archived instances of the internet, millions of student papers previously submitted to Turnitin, and commercial databases of journal articles and periodicals. Any matches uncovered between submitted papers and source material is detailed in an intuitive and unambiguous format.

Camtasia: Camtasia is a screen recording device that allows instructors to create interactive video tutorials and presentations. With full-motion recording capability that records the screen, webcam video and voice, instructors can produce professional-quality video presentations with small file sizes to post into a WebCT course, burn on CD-ROM, or post on the Internet.
