Plug-Ins

Some Web-based courses may require software programs that give computers additional capabilities. These programs are referred to as "plug-ins" and can add functionality such as video streaming, PowerPoint viewing, document retrieval, or animation. The following is a list of the most popular plug-ins that may be used in Web-based courses and links to the download site.

Adobe Reader For viewing and printing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files
   
Flash Macromedia Flash Player is the client for delivering Macromedia Flash experiences across desktops and devices.
   
Java The Java Runtime Enviroment enables your computer to run applications and applets that use Java technology.
   
Quicktime QuickTime Player is an easy-to-use application for playing, interacting with or viewing video, audio, VR or graphics files.
   
RealPlayer RealPlayer enables your computer to play streaming RealVideo and RealAudio.
   
Shockwave Shockwave Player displays Web content that has been created by Macromedia Director.
   
Windows Media Player Windows Media Player lets you play streaming audio, video, animations, and multimedia presentations on the web.

"Please note that Windows Media Player 10 is compatible with all audio and video content used in Del Mar Colleges WebCTcourses. However, Windows Media Player 11 is not currently compatible with some media. Therefore, we strongly urge that all students using WebCT use only Windows Media Player 10 until compatibility issues are resolved."
   
PowerPoint Viewer PowerPoint Viewer 2003 lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.
