Introduction to WebCT

What is WebCT?
WebCT is a Web-based course management system that allows faculty to create Web sites for courses that enhance or deliver course instruction. Students enrolled in courses supported with WebCT have access to support materials posted by the instructor (using syllabi and assignments), links to Web-based materials, discussion boards and chat rooms, and online quizzing. Each instructor customizes WebCT for his or her course, using a variety of "tools" as mentioned above. WebCT is the most frequently used Web-based course management system at Del Mar College.

How do I log-in and out of WebCT?
Log in to your course using the User Name (sometimes called a "WebCT ID") and Password found in your welcome letter or assigned by the DMC Helpdesk. To begin, go to www.delmar.edu and click WebCT. At the WebCT Home Page, click the link saying "Log in to myWebCT." At the login window, enter your User Name and Password exactly as it was given to you. Please note that the login is case sensitive. This means it knows the difference between upper and lower case!

Logging in and out of myWebCT

Once you have successfully logged into myWebCT, your login ID and password will be retained by the browser until you exit the browser.

First, this means that you must click on either Logout to exit WebCT or simply close the browser.

Second, it allows you to visit links outside the WebCT program without having to login again. You can also bookmark any page in WebCT and the login prompt will appear on the bookmarked page rather than at the myWebCT page.

When you visit links outside WebCT, be aware that the browser sometimes opens a second window. If you are having problems, check the taskbar to see if there is more than one copy of the browser open and click the taskbar icon for the window you want to view.

Remembering your password

You may change your password in myWebCT by clicking on Password Settings, entering the old password, entering the new password twice and then clicking Update password. Only you have access to your new password. If you need it reset because you forgot it call the helpdesk.
