INTRODUCTION TO SPECIAL POPULATIONS (3-1-3)

An enriched, integrated, pre-service course and content experience.  Provides an overview of schooling and classrooms from the perspectives of language, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnic and academic diversity and equity with an emphasis on factors that facilitate learning.  Opportunities to participate in early field observations of special populations from preschool to grade 12 (P-12).  Course content aligned with State Board of Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards.  Includes a 30 hour lab component; 15 hours of which must be with special populations in P-12 schools.  Prerequisite: EDUC 1301
