The One-Hour Lab

This course has a One-Hour Lab attached to it; you will sign up for the lab when you sign up for the course. During the long semesters, you'll meet once a week in one of the English Department's four computer labs with a group of students other than those in your regular writing class. Because there's no grade, as such, in the Lab, you'll be free to practice the habits of good writing without the threat of a red pen hanging over you. Furthermore, you'll learn quite a bit about the web that we won't have time to cover in our class. Although the work you do in the Lab isn't directly connected to specific assignments that we'll be doing in class, any opportunity to write to an audience with a good wordprocessor or to learn about the web will support and complement your work in your writing class.

Regular attendance in the Lab is essential. You'll attend 14 times at your regularly scheduled time and a 15th lab in the form of a lab project that Lab personnel will tell you about. At the end of the semester you will have accomplished 15 labs. For each lab that you don't attend, the English Department requires me to lower your course grade by five points. That may sound like a harsh penalty, but, remember, it's not hard to complete all your labs or do your makeups. But bear in mind that the Department allows only three makeups.

Many students enjoy the Lab. Put it to good use.
