Online Courses

The virtual classroom is no longer an option for students: it is a necessity. Students can submit assignments at any hour they choose, dialogue on discussion boards and in chat rooms with classmates about course assignments, or email their instructors for clarification. They can also submit drafts any time of the day for review by an Online Tutor from the Stone Writing Center . Students can finish a degree more quickly by taking online coursework.

Whether a student is a busy parent balancing work and school, or enjoys the flexibility offered by distance education, The Department of English, Philosophy, and Education's online courses provide an opportunity for credit and experience in writing, reading and critical thinking instruction using state-of-the-art technology. Our online courses demand a good deal of self-discipline and motivation, but the additional effort and convenience make them an excellent alternative to traditional classroom-based classes.

The department's intent is to address the needs of an ever-growing population of students seeking online courses and supplemental instruction opportunities like Online Writing Consultations, which have proven to be a perfect fit for thousands of students. Full and part-time work, family responsibilities, and long commutes create frustrating scheduling problems. Online coursework thus provides a remedy by providing more flexibility to students' busy schedules.

Online courses are offered in English 1301 (with online one-hour labs), English 1302, British Literature, World Literature, and Philosophy. Some courses are offered as a hybrid both on-campus and supported by a web presence.

Please contact the Department of English, Philosophy, and Education with any questions and/or concerns at 1.361.698.1234 or email to english@delmar.edu.
