Edward S. Quintana

My name is Edward S. Quintana. I am forty-one years old and I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. I love to travel without flying. Give me an open road and there is no telling where I’ll end up. I also participate in outdoor activities such as bike riding, jogging, and photographing everything.

I chose English as my major because I have always been fascinated with words, stories, and lyrics. Some authors who influenced me are George Orwell, Hunter S. Thompson, and Kurt Vonnegut. The lyricists who greatly influenced me are Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Roger Waters, and Neil Peart. I completely ignored the classics and this is one of the reasons I enrolled at Del Mar: to garner all the influences and ideas of the early authors and storytellers. I had no idea that my mind and soul could be bent and stretched in so many diverse directions and unfamiliar fashions.

Jael Sprinkle writes poetry and personal essays for her friends and family. She has been married to her husband for fifteen years and together they have six children- five daughters, one son as well as two trusty pet rabbits. She enjoys her life in the quiet town of Rockport, picnics on the beach, and clear nights on her front lawn spent stargazing.

Jael came to Del Mar after successfully completing her G.E.D. through the Del Mar Testing Center. The test proctor commented that he wanted to see her come back and take college courses. She took it as a welcome invitation to further pursue her passion for writing through Del Mar's English Program. Since she has been at Del Mar, several teachers have inspired and tutored her in the mechanics and style of the English Language. Jael is passionate about the writing process and passionate about the success of other mothers in the community. The English program at Del Mar has offered her plenty of opportunities to effectively communicate to other women that they, too, can achieve their dreams through Del Mar College.

Yadira Moya

My name is Yadira Yvette Moya and I am 20 years old. I am a mother to Marivette Moya, and a wife to Juan Ruben Moya. My family has played a tremendous role in my decision to embark on this adventure called college. We are a very young but fun-loving family. In the future, I plan on working language preservation among the Native American nations, and I will start by attending Northern Arizona University.

In my freshman English class, I was given the assignment of writing a research paper about a subject of our choice. Since I was very young the Native American culture intrigued me greatly, so my heart told me this was something I should look into further. The journey I made during the course of the research for that paper was the most grueling and strenuous experience of my life. My journey from teenager to womanhood took flight in the process of writing that paper. I found the person I wanted to be and what she wanted to do the rest of her life. In a couple of years, it is my intention to attend Northern Arizona University where I plan on enrolling in the Native American Studies program.
