Metaphor:
A figure of speech similar to a simile but more direct. Metaphors compare two essentially dissimilar things. It is used to create new connections for the reader. One word is used directly in place of another to suggest a relationship between them. Usually a metaphor says one thing is something else. (e.g., My love is a red, red rose.)
