MINUTES OF THE FACULTY COUNCIL

April 9, 2001

Meeting called to order by Robert Bridwell @ 1:30 p.m.

1. Approval of Minutes of February 2, 2001, and March 9, 2001. PASSED
   Dr. Armenta discussed Proposed revisions to the Del Mar College Manual of Policies and Procedures. Amendments were suggested to Dr. Armenta. Motion by Richard Rupp and Seconded by Mike Dunton to approve the proposed revisions to the Del Mar College Manual of Policies and Procedures. PASSED (These revisions were not controversial in nature.)

   Dr. Armenta distributed Taxonomy of Instructional Positions April 27, 2000 for informational purposes. Dr. Armenta stated that this may be developed into a policy.

   Dr. Armenta discussed beginning a committee to review Faculty Evaluation of Administrators.

   Eileen Russell discussed that evaluation of faculty should be consistent with that of administration.

   Richard Rupp and Sue Tomlison discussed that questions on the IDEA system may not evaluate faculty fairly with regards to content area and type of instruction.

   Richard Rupp had a question with regards to where the IDEA reports are going and how they are progressing.

   Dr. Armenta stated that Chairs will be asked to look at areas that are working well with IDEA.
   

2. Chairs Reports
   
   1. Discussed a report by the TCCTCA about appropriation for 2001-2002.
      
      
3. Committee Reports
   
   Financial and Scholarship ranked and decided on scholarship information to go out to students.
   
   Curriculum Committee decided on criteria on REM levels.
   
   Discussion regarding the requirements of each of the committees to send a report to the Faculty Council by April 1, 2001.

4. Old Business
   
   1. 1. Discussion and possible action regarding faculty evaluation of administrators. Robert Bridwell mentioned discussions with administration regarding faculty evaluations.
   2. Discussion regarding the ability of teaching assistants to become voting faculty council members. Faculty council discussion was to postpone this until faculty members bring this up as an issue.
      
      
5. New Buisness
   
   1. Eileen distributed the 2001 Report for the Committee on Committees. Discussion regarding this report.
      Gaylord Hoyt made the motion seconded by Sue Tomlison to approve the Committee on Committees 2001 Report. PASSED
      
   2. Discussion regarding the Faculty Council Elections. Complete election results will be available at the next meeting.
   3. Discussion regarding the Tuition Fee increases. No action taken.
