How Do I Apply?

Avoid the lines! Apply electronically .

Electronic Alternatives
The U.S. Department of Education has developed electronic alternatives for applying for Financial Aid. Using one of the electronic procedures, you may reduce the processing time of your application by 2-3 weeks. Students must apply for an electronic PIN (Personal Identification Number). This PIN serves as the student's electronic signature as well as enabling the student to access their account information. For more information on the PIN, log on to www.pin.ed.gov . Dependent students should have at least one parent apply for PIN also.

FAFSA on the Web
Applying on the Web is the Department of Education's newest electronic application process. This procedure allows you to complete the FAFSA over the Internet by providing an easy to use interview format. FAFSA on the Web can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov . This application procedure is also available in Spanish.

First Time Applicants:

  • Print and complete a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.
  • Tell us if you want to sign your application electronically using your Federal Student Aid Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  • If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will also have to sign your application. Your parent can also sign electronically with a PIN too.
A PIN is not required to fill out and submit a FAFSA but using a PIN is the fastest way to sign your application. The process of obtaining a PIN is easy. Students and Parents should apply for a PIN at www.pin.edu.gov.

After completing the application on the Web, you submit the application electronically and either mail your signature page or utilize your PIN which serves as your electronic signature. NOTE: Dependent students must have one parent sign the signature page unless their parent has also obtained a PIN. After signing your FAFSA, you should receive your SAR within 3 days if an email address is provided on your FAFSA. Otherwise, it will be mailed to you within 2-3 weeks.
