Many students work to earn part of their educational expenses while they are attending college. Working on campus is an ideal situation for someone with transportation problems. There are several resources at Del Mar College that a student can approach about finding a job.

Work-Study Programs:

FWSP and TXWKS -Students will have the opportunity to select their job assignment. Your award is based on at least 6 hours of enrollment and is the maximum you can earn per semester. The rate of pay is $6.00 per hour. (Actual hours will be determined by the amount of your award.) The Business Office at each respective campus distributes paychecks on the 15th of each month. You will be able to arrange your working hours around your class schedule, as permitted by your supervisor.

Contact the Financial Aid Office before withdrawing or dropping to less than six hours.


Student Assistants Employment Program:

The Student Assistant Program is a part-time employment program for Del Mar students. Students do not have to show financial need to work under this program. The part-time jobs are available in the various departments on campus. Students interested in earning part of their educational costs should contact the departments concerning these jobs. Students are paid the $6.00 and work no more than 15 hours per week. Students must be enrolled at least half-time.

Job Placement Services:

The Career Planning and Placement Office has listings of full-time and part-time jobs available to students seeking employment. Interested students should complete an application in person at the Career Placement Office in the Harvin Student Center on the East Campus. The Del Mar College Student Employment Web site is cosponsored by Student Financial Aid Services and Career Placement offices. This Web site affords employers interested in hiring Del Mar College students the opportunity to post part-time and/or seasonal positions 24 hours a day. Students can use this Web site to search for currently available positions and apply on-line for certain specific jobs as indicated by employers.

Please contact the Career Planning and Placement Office to obtain user name and password. Students interested in obtaining part-time employment at Del Mar College are encouraged to use the service.

Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP):

The Federal Work-Study Program is a federal campus-based aid program which provides part-time employment for students who are enrolled at least half-time and have financial need. Students are paid $6.00 per hour and usually work 12-15 hours per week. The jobs that are available to the students are located on campus in one of the departments. The amount a student can earn in a year is determined by the amount of financial need and other aid awarded as part of the financial aid package. Students are paid on the 15th of each month. Employment opportunities off campus are also available through community service employment. Contact the Work-Study Coordinator for information on community service employment.

Texas College Work-Study Program (TXWKS):

The Texas College Work-Study Program provides jobs to students who demonstrate the highest financial need. Students are paid $6.00 per hour, and usually work 12-15 hours per week on campus. The student must be a Texas resident and must be enrolled at least half-time.

Students who have been awarded work-study must visit the Career Planning and Placement Service.
