Grants

A grant is defined as an award of money that is given to the student with no repayment required. Below are descriptions of the various grants that are available at Del Mar College .

Federal Pell Grant (FPELL):
The Federal Pell Grant is designed to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students. It is considered the foundation of the financial aid awards and may be combined with other forms of aid to help meet the costs of education. The award amounts range from $890 to $4,731 for the 2008-09 academic year ($400 to $4,310 for 2007-08) and are based on the number of hours for which the student is enrolled, the cost of education, and the Expected Family Contribution (which is calculated by the Central Processor when the student files the FAFSA and is indicated on the Student Aid Report). A student's file must be complete ten days prior to the end of the semester in order to receive payment from Federal Pell Grant by the last day of final exams.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): The FSEOG is targeted to qualified applicants who have an exceptional remaining financial need after being awarded the Federal Pell. At Del Mar College awards may range from $350 to $700 annually.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG): An Academic Competitiveness Grant will provide up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study to full-time students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and who had successfully completed a rigorous high school program, as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the secretary of education. Second year students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Program applies for students who have graduated from high school after January 1, 2005.

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient
  • Be enrolled full-time in a degree program
  • Have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study
  • If a first-year student (1-24 semester hours), not have been previously enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • If a second-year student (24-48 semester hours), have a DMC cumulative 3.0 grade point average or higher for the first academic year

Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Program (LEAPP): This grant combines federal and state money to assist students attending public institutions of higher education. To be eligible, a student must be eligible to pay Texas resident tuition, have financial need, and be an undergraduate student. Awards range from $350 to $700 per academic year.

Toward Excellence, Access, and Success (TEXAS) Grant Program
(New and Continuing):
This need based grant is designed to enable well-prepared Texas resident students who graduated from high school no earlier then May 2006, completed the Recommended or Distinguished Achievement high school curriculum or its equivalent, demonstrate need as defined by the FAFSA, have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of <=4000, enrolls in at least three quarter time (9+ hours) in a degree or certified program, within 16 months  of high school graduation and has not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance. For the 2007-2008 award year, students will received $1,730 for the academic year 2007-2008.

Students who earn their Associate Degree on or after May 2001 and are participating in a bachelor's program at a 4-yr university can apply for the Texas Grant even if they do not meet the high school curriculum or 16 month criteria stated above.
Please note: the student must be able to prove that they have earned an Associate Degree, not a certificate , on or after May 2001.

TEXAS Grant New first time recipients must meet DMC's Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) to continue eligibility. TEXAS Grant-Continuing recipients must meet the following SAP Requirements:

  1. Overall 2.5 GPA
  2. Complete 75% of courses taken.
  3. Complete 24 hours at the end of the academic year
Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) Program (New & Cont): This need-based grant is designed for students who are Texas residents and who are in the first year of college (<= 29 hours). Students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of <= 2000 and must have graduated from high school, earned a GED, or must have completed home school, must have no felony convictions and must be enrolled at least half-time. For the 2007-08 award year students received $1,730 for the academic year.

TEOG first year recipients must meet DMC's Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) to be eligible. Second year or beyond recipients of the TEOG must meet the following criteria:
  1. Overall 2.5 GPA, and,
  2. Completed 75% of courses taken.
Del Mar Student Grant (Resident) (DMSG): This need-based grant is designed to provide awards to qualified Texas students. Awards range from $350 to $700 per academic year.

Del Mar Student Grant (Nonresident) (DMSGN): This need-based grant is designed to provide aid to qualified out-of-state students. Awards range from $350 to $700 annually.

Continuing Education Grant Program (CEGP): Available for some students who are taking noncredit courses. The student must have a valid SAR on file and must demonstrate financial need. This grant is not available for students receiving aid for credit courses. Contact the Financial Aid Office for the available classes and additional information.

State of Texas Nursing Scholarships: The College is allocated funds every year to award scholarships to students enrolled in the Registered Nursing program. To be considered, a student must have a Student Aid Report (SAR)#on file with the Financial Aid Office and be enrolled in the Registered Nursing program. Applications and information may be obtained at the Offices of Vocational or Registered Nursing at Del Mar College, or at the Financial Aid Office.
