CUTTING COSTS IN COLLEGE
Getting a college education can be expensive, and many students who have limited resources may have a hard time making ends meet. Below are a few helpful suggestions on cutting costs while attending college:
- Plan a budget and stick with it!
- Try to buy used books from the bookstore or from someone who has taken the course before.
- Students who live close to campus could consider walking or riding a bicycle.
- Carpooling is an option for students who do not live close to campus. Students should also consider riding the bus to school.
- Purchase basic style clothes and look for sales.
- Take advantage of on-campus activities for sources of entertainment.
- Avoid credit cards.
- Get a roommate to share living expenses.
- Look for specials on food at the grocery store and use coupons whenever possible.
- Prepare your meals instead of going out to eat.

TUITION WAIVERS
A waiver of tuition and/or fees is available for special categories of college students. They must be Texas residents.
For example, the valedictorian of a Texas high school is exempt from paying tuition at a public technical or community college or university in Texas for the first two semesters after graduation from high school. Other tuition waivers through the state of Texas are:
- Veterans and Dependents (Hazelwood Act)
(contact Registrar's Office, Veterans Desk, for more information)
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Certified Educational Aides

MAXIMUM TIME LENGTH
- Students will have a maximum of 63 attempted hours for a certificate program and 90 hours for a degree program to complete their educational objective, degree, or certificate at Del Mar College whether or not they have received financial aid during their attendance.
- Federal regulations state that no more than 30 semester hours of remedial coursework may be counted toward determining a student's enrollment status for Financial Aid. ESOL classes are included in this remedial count.
- All remedial course work is included in the 63/90 attempted hours count.
VETERAN'S SERVICES
A Veteran's Representative is located in the Office of Admissions and Registrar on the East Campus and West Campus. The purpose of the office is to assist veterans in their pursuit of an education. Information relating to basic eligibility, benefits, admissions, and advising is available in this office. For financial aid purposes, the veteran's benefits are considered as a resource when establishing need. For additional assistance, veterans may call 698-1250.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The Special Services Office coordinates on-campus and off-campus services to students with disabilities upon their entrance to the College. Students should discuss their educational needs or any other related matter with the Assistant Dean of Special Services. The office is located on the first floor of the Harvin Center, East Campus, Room 188, telephone 698-1298.
Del Mar College recognizes the access problems some students may face.
