- LAND UTILIZATION The 1986 Plan anticipated that there was sufficient space within the 60 acres of developed campus to accommodate expansion for new construction by “in-filling” buildings in the area west of Airport Road. The report recommended that the land west of the loop road next to the shops be reserved for new programs. The proposed health science facility and recreational facilities should be located at the portion of the West Campus presently undeveloped. If adjacent property becomes available, purchases should be made to accommodate growth beyond the 20 year planning period. Since most of the undeveloped land owned by Del Mar College is situated at this campus, it is likely to be the future location for the majority of expansion.
2. ESTABLISH AN “EDGE” The edge to the West Campus can be defined by continuing to enhance along Airport Road, Old Brownsville Road, and Santa Elena Street with plantings, earthforms, and lights. The new loop road will not require the same extent of “edge” treatment, but should be lined with trees and include proper lighting for security.
