Implementing the PlanYear 2005
The process that established the initial phase (Five Year Plan) of the proposed improvements resulted from input received from the Regents, administration, faculty, staff and students. The Design Team received information from a wide range of interested individuals. Drafts of the Academic/Instructional Master Plan served to set the course for the overall direction. However, it was the one-on-one interviews with deans and departments heads that set the pattern for development for the initial planning period. Implementing this plan will require in-depth feasibility studies of programs and their existing facilities
EAST CAMPUS:
- The Center for Early Learning - This facility is to be located at the intersection of Baldwin Blvd. and South Staples Street. Because of its prominent and visible location it gives the College an opportunity to develop a signature structure for the East Campus. The Center will serve as a model program to train early childhood professionals and as a catalyst for quality care and education for children and families in the community. Conceptual plans call for two college lecture halls, eleven classrooms, health clinic, kitchen, family resource room and four separate playgrounds.
- Expansion of Kinesiology Program – Expand the Aquatic Center and Gymasium with new construction and renovation of the existing buildings which includes a weight room, dance room, classrooms, offices, a multi-purpose room and two additional racquetball courts.
- Expansion of Multiservice Center - Provide additional classrooms and laboratories for Continuing Education in the area occupied by the Purchasing Department warehouse. New construction will replace warehouse area utilized by Continuing Education.
- Upgrade/Renovation of Existing Buildings - New technology available to Del Mar College has caused some of its facilities to become functionally obsolete and in need of major upgrades. As educators take advantage of new educational delivery systems such as the internet and distance learning, the College’s facilities will require major renovations.
- Deferred Maintenance - The East Campus has buildings that require major repairs and renovations. This work was identified during a building survey.
