Implementing the PlanYear 2005West CampusUtilities Continued
Since major piping across a significant portion of the campus will be required to meet the increased cooling load, it would be reasonable to consider the installation of a central heating system for the campus at this time. Installation of distribution piping for the health science building would be relatively easy to add when replacing or adding the chilled water piping needed to serve the greatly expanded public safety building in this phase.
Required Plumbing Upgrades after 2005
The water supply sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and medium gas system installed for the year 2005 requirements will be able to accommodate the needs for the continued expansion of the campus.
Required Electrical Upgrade Prior to 2005
The existing primary electrical distribution system is at full capacity. Central Power and Light has advised that the system requires upgrading. The projected expansion of the campus by approximately 190,000 square feet will require additional capacity. An additional primary electrical source will be required.
The communication and data system will require a major upgrade to meet the demanding needs of information transfer. This will require adding a system of multiduct conduits and fiberoptic cables that will serve each building. This system will include spare conduit capacity to meet the needs for the future. The transfer of information between the East and West campuses needs to be evaluated and the most reliable method incorporated A new communication/data room will be required to accommodate the required equipment. This will provide a flexible system with means to add buildings and work areas as required.
Required Electrical Upgrades After 2005
The projected expansion of the campus by approximately 120,000 square feet will require extending the primary electrical distribution system to the area of the new buildings. The existing primary system should not require upgrading, if the recommendations for 2005 have been accomplished.
The existing communication and data system of conduits and fiberoptic cables can be extended to the new buildings. Spare conduits should be available from the major backbone 2005 addition. Additional space for equipment will be needed at the main communication/data area.
