Scholarships
The Del Mar College Foundation office awards scholarships to new, incoming students, as well as continuing students. Many scholarships are available and are awarded according to the criteria the benefactor outlined when establishing the scholarship.
Selection of Scholarship Recipients
The Del Mar College Foundation Scholarship Committee is composed of Foundation board members. The Committee meets three times a year to select qualified scholarship recipients for the Fall/Spring academic year, Spring semester, and Summer semester. The criteria for scholarships vary, so students are asked to fill out the application completely prior to turning it into the Foundation in order to be eligible for as many as possible. Applications are accepted from new, incoming students as well as returning students. Students are notified by mail of their status soon after the Scholarship Committee has met. Benefactors are notified of the recipients of their respective scholarships, receive thank you letters from the students benefiting from their scholarship, along with a photo when available and are invited to meet the recipient in person at our annual Gift and Scholarship Reception.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
- How do you define new, incoming students and continuing students?
- A new, incoming student is anyone who has not been a Del Mar College student in the past. This could be a recent graduate of a high school or someone who has been out of high school for a while, but has never enrolled at DMC. A new, incoming student could also be someone transferring from another college or university to Del Mar College.
- A returning student are those students who are currently enrolled in DMC and plan to continue their education at Del Mar College.
- Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
All scholarships have criteria that were set up by the benefactor detailing what is required by a student in order to be awarded the scholarship. Each scholarship has different criteria, but when applying, the student is applying for all scholarships with the one application. The student is eligible for all scholarships that their particular GPA, major, etc. fits.
- Should I apply for specific awards as described in the Scholarship Handbook?
No, just as was explained in Question #2, by completing one scholarship application, a student is applying for all Foundation scholarships.
- Do you adhere firmly to the application deadline?
Yes, due to funding and time limitations and the work that must be done with each application, the application deadline is firm.
- I received a scholarship, but I have not received a check yet. What should I do? Scholarship awards are generally applied to charges for tuition and fees
directly through the financial aid office. Any remaining balances left owed
are the responsibility of the student. Any credit balances will be paid out
through financial aid with a check being issued through the cashier's
office. Students will need to check with the financial aid office to see if
any payments are still due following their scholarship award.
