Honors Program

Students with high academic achievement are encouraged to participate in the Honors Program through application and acceptance to the Program and then through successful completion of courses with an honors component. Numerous courses provide Honors Credit through contract negotiation between you and selected instructors in the Arts, Business, Sciences, Occupational Education, and Technology. Most employers and university faculty equate honors credits, which are indicated by an "H" on transcripts, with enriched study.

The following procedure allows registration for honors credit:
  • Be accepted to the Honors Program according to criteria stated in the Catalog. An Honors identification card will be sent to you verifying your acceptance.
  • Register for the regular class to save a position in the class.
  • Determine, via Web page or catalog, if your selected class is already approved for honors credit. If not, ask the Honors Program Coordinator or your instructor about offering honors credit for your class or classes.
  • Negotiate a contract with your instructor for the honors component requirements, which should be designed for you specifically. Show your Honors identification card and sign the contract early in the semester.
  • Complete the honors contract with an "A" or "B" course grade. Honors credit cannot be granted for lower grades.
  • The honors credit "H" is inscribed on your transcript after your course grade is reported to the Registrar and the contract completion is confirmed by the Honors Program Coordinator.
