ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Doctorate degree in Molecular Biology. College teaching experience in biology required for employment. PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to use computer presentation software and other appropriate visual media in biology instruction is required. Strong management skills and computer proficiency using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Must have outstanding verbal, writing, editing, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills and have successful experience utilizing web-based, multimedia and instructional technologies in the classroom. Demonstrate the ability to perform effectively with a high degree of independence and initiative, dealing with multiple complex tasks and issues, and have experience using the instrumentation commonly used in this field of molecular biology. Experience with Apple OS X and grant administration is preferred. Ability to teach lower-division science majors’ and biotechnology program courses. A graduate in molecular biology is highly desired (Ph.D. required). Biotechnology related work experience (other than teaching), knowledge of inquiry-based learning, and recent teaching experience in molecular biology is highly preferred.
SALARY: $51,582.00 per nine (9) months, plus benefits.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, tenure-track. Beginning on or about May 24, 2010.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Valid driver’s license desired.
SPECIAL WORKING HOURS: Evening and weekend hours required.
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional travel to area sites for field trips and possible grant workshop travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach lower division science major’s and biotechnology courses, including associated laboratories and field experiences. Maintain safe and secure laboratories. Plan and evaluate biology/biotechnology curriculum and effectiveness of biology instruction. Provide academic advisement for students. Assist in maintenance and development of program budget and assist in developing and maintaining inventory of supplies, specimens, and equipment. Participate in recommended continuing education activities. Develop curriculum and learning activities. Recruit and retain students from area high schools into the biotechnology program. Serve on departmental and college committees. Work with students of varied multi-cultural backgrounds. Perform other related duties as assigned.
