ACADEMIC RETENTION ADVOCATE
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree with emphasis in student support services in the area of case management to support retention efforts. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a higher education environment to include academic student support services, student development, curriculum development, training, supervision, program management, supervision of student staff, program development. PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Master’s degree in any of the following areas: education, psychology, counseling, college student personnel/development/social work or related field. Knowledge of student development and student services, practices and principles. Must be innovative, creative and resourceful; research, analyze, develop, implement, and evaluate strategic student retention programs; track data and assess retention needs. Must be sensitive to non-traditional, at-risk and minority students. Must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment in decision making; self-motivated; solve problems and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff; team building skills and have effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge in supervising, training workshop, and/or case management. Working knowledge of Microsoft computer software applications to include Word and Excel.
SALARY: $46,932.00 per 12 month, plus benefits.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, Expiring term, Exempt.
SPECIAL WORKING HOURS: Monday – Friday and possible weekends.
TRAVEL REQUIRED: Training/Conferences.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Must be able to research, develop and implement a process of contacting, tracking and re-enrolling students who have self-withdrawn from the College. Coordinate and conduct sessions for students re-enrolling in college to ensure support and retention. Support and participate in retention initiatives for at-risk and under-served students. Must serve as an advocate for students in transitional and/or academic recover status. Recruit, train, and supervise peer mentors to be assigned to students re-enrolling. Track student contacts, referrals, and progress to provide reports to appropriate departments. Appropriately refer students to the Counseling Department, Tutoring and/or Supplemental Instruction Coordinator to ensure that students receive sufficient assistance to improve retention. Collaborate work with Student Success Center staff to ensure student success and retention.
