      EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

ACADEMIC FELLOW NURSING INSTRUCTOR

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Three (3) years current medical-surgical nursing required. Texas RN license and CPR certification required. PREFERRED: Knowledge of a learning college and/or knowledge of learning communities. NOTE: Any  applicant with more than three (3) years of full-time college teaching experience will not be eligible to participate in the Academic Fellowship Program.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Fall Semester 2009. Academic Fellows will be assigned a departmental mentor and be placed on a plan to develop teaching effectiveness, and will be evaluated in accordance with the College’s annual faculty evaluation procedures. An Academic Fellow will receive an expiring term contract for a nine (9) month term. At the sole election of the College, the Fellow may be offered an expiring term contract on an annual basis up to a maximum of three years, based on the Department’s recommendation and the continued need of the College. An Academic Fellow may be considered for noncompetitive conversion to tenure track faculty status based upon previous competition for an Academic Fellow appointment. Conversion is at the sole election of the College and there must be approval for a tenure track position. To be eligible for consideration to converted tenure track status, the Academic Fellow must not have a break in service with the College under the Academic Fellow appointment and must have demonstrated teaching competency during employment as an Academic Fellow appointment and must have demonstrated teaching competency during employment as an Academic Fellow and receive recommendation from the department chair. Academic Fellows, either expressly or by implication, do not have a right of conversion to tenure-track faculty status or any expectancy of continued employment beyond an expiring term appointment. Any such conversion is subject to a contingent upon an offer of a probationary tenure-track appointment by the College President. Number of years of service as an Academic Fellow is not transferable upon the College President’s offer, and an Academic Fellow’s acceptance, of a probationary tenure track appointment. Creditable years of service related to salary, promotion and tenure must be accrued while in a probationary tenure-track status. 

SALARY/BENEFITS: $41,463.00 per 9 months, plus benefits. Academic Fellows receive the same fringe benefits provided to other temporary, full-time employees. Additional salary increments will not be paid for years of experience at the College.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  By the time of employment must have licensure as a registered nursing in Texas and documentation of current CPR course card.

SPECIAL WORKING HOURS: Evenings/weekends, as needed.

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Between office and clinical facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Must be willing to teach under supervision of an MSN prepared faculty, the various courses offered in the nursing program, some of which are offered in the summer. Will be expected to supervise students in the various clinical facilities. Will also be required to teach the Health Sciences prerequisite course (s), some sections of which are offered days, evenings, and weekends.  Assist in the research and identify appropriate textbooks and other instructional resources. Evaluates student progress and performance and helps assigns grades. Holds conferences with students and advises students. Assist with marketing the program and recruiting students from area high schools. Assist in developing, implementing and evaluating course curriculum and instructional materials. Serve on college committees. Work with students of varied multi-cultural backgrounds. Perform other related faculty and administrative duties as assigned.
