Introduction to the Humanities is an interdisciplinary course involving the study of music, painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and other arts. In particular, we will be examining each of these disciplines, both separately and collectively, to try to discover the values which permeate each and their relationship to the social, scientific, religious, political and philosophical climate of the period. Additionally, we will study the methods and techniques used to create artworks and learn to make our own informed critical judgments.
This course is taught in a chronological fashion beginning with the art, history and culture of ancient Mesopotamia. It continues through all of the major historical periods up to the present day.
