Dr. Scott Hagarty
Dr. Scott Hagarty is Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Music Theory at Del Mar College.  Dr. Hagarty earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a minor in jazz studies from the University of Northern Iowa,  a Masters of Music Degree in trumpet performance from Yale University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in trumpet performance with a secondary area in music theory from the University of Minnesota.  He previously taught at the University of Minnesota, Saint Paul Conservatory of Music and the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN.  Scott's primary trumpet teachers have included Allan Dean, Gary Bordner, Dr. David Baldwin and Dr. Randy Grabowski.  He also studied music theory under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Cherlin at the University of Minnesota.  

Dr. Hagarty is a versatile trumpet player having performed in classical, jazz and early music styles on both the modern trumpet and the Renaissance cornetto.  He has performed as 3rd trumpet with the Corpus Christi Symphony and Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony and held a position on the sublist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.  As a freelance trumpet player, Dr. Hagarty has performed in a variety of venues including Carnegie Hall in NYC, and with a variety of ensembles such as the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Theatre Cedar Rapids, Rochester Symphony (MN), and Mankato Symphony.  In addition, Dr. Hagarty was a regular member of the Aurora Brass Quintet in Minneapolis, Minnesota for four seasons from 2004-2008.  On the cornetto, Dr. Hagarty has performed with the Gregorian Singers, Consortium Carissimi and at the Schubert Club in the Twin Cities, MN.  

Dr. Hagarty is an active member of the International Trumpet Guild and has several published CD reviews in the ITG Journal.
