Dr. Lisa Nicol (b. 1973) received a Masters of Music in Percussion Performance and a Doctorate of Music in Percussion Performance from The University of Texas at Austin. Lisa gained a Bachelor of the Arts from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she graduated with the highest honors and a certificate in Baroque Timpani. Her teachers include Thomas Burritt, George Frock, Jonathan Haas, Mitchell Peters, Heather Corbett, Pamela Dow and Martin Gibson.

Lisa is a member of the Victoria Symphony and is the timpanist for the Corpus Christi Cathedral. She regularly freelances with the Corpus Christi and the San Antonio Symphonies and has freelanced with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Austin Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has taken part in festivals all over the world including the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara, the Rome Festival and has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention with the University of Texas Percussion Ensemble, Memphis 1996. Lisa has given solo recitals in places as close as Austin, and as far afield as Aberdeen, Scotland.

Prior to her position at Del Mar College, Lisa was a Lecturer in Music at the School for Performing Arts with Aberdeen College and an instructor at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, where she taught percussion and directed the Percussion and Steel Pan Ensembles. During her time in Aberdeen she formed a percussion ensemble that performed in the Sound Festival: a festival for contemporary music in the North East of Scotland. She held an interim position as Professor of Percussion at the University of Texas at San Antonio in Fall 2002.
