The Del Mar College Guitar Program is one of the most established in the state of Texas with over twenty-five majors. Students have come from all over Texas and even as far away as Oregon, France, and Malaysia. In conjuction with Texas A & M University/Corpus Christi, we offer a four year degree plan leading to a Bachelor of Music.
The Del Mar Guitar Program had a first in 1992 when Sophomore Wann Dar Tan won the String Division in the Corpus Christi Young Artists Competitions. His competitors included graduate guitar students from other schools and conservatories as well as violinists, violists and cellists from all over the world. Wann Dar Tan is the only guitarist to have ever won the award.
Other students have been awarded teaching assistantships and scholarships to schools such as the University of Arizona in Tucson, Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University, and University of North Texas, Denton. We also offer a highly comprehensive Music Education program specializing in guitar and our graduates have found fulfilling positions here in Corpus Christi as well as in other cities such as Dallas, Harlingen, Houston, and San Antonio.
The Del Mar/Texas A & M University/CC Guitar Ensemble
The Del Mar/Texas A & M University Guitar Ensemble performs regularly in Corpus Christi, in concert and in community appearances and benefits. The ensemble meets once a week for two hours. Rehearsals are intense and the technical standard of the repertoire is high.
