Voice
For nearly half a century the private voice program at Del Mar College has served Corpus Christi, South Texas, and, quite literally, the world with competitive, quality pedagogy. Scores of Del Mar voice studio graduates have entered the realm of music education at the primary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Many DMC graduates are involved in choral programs stretching from the Rio Grande Valley to the Texas Panhandle. Standards within the studios are traditionally high, and former students are still using the basic techniques they learned while studying at DMC. All voice students benefit from the atmosphere of respect and cooperation that exists between the voice studios. John Boyer, tenor, and Cynthia Longoria, soprano, are active performers who recruit for the voice program and serve the community as resource persons.
The voice program has produced a significant roster of performing artists. Helen Erwin Donath's European operatic career has spanned almost 30 years. She has many recordings to her credit, and she recently made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro . Ernestine Jackson went to New York City and became a highly successful performer of musical theater. Abraham Morales also went to New York and sang comprimario roles at the Met. Jo Ann Pickens, boasting a list of rave reviews, has spent the last twenty years as a concert and recital performer in Europe. Elaine Flynn Beugler now sings with the Metropolitan Opera Chorus.
We are proud of our voice graduates. The spirit within the voice program is positive, encouraging, and energetic. Please contact Dennis Richardson at 361-698-1352 or Cynthia Longoria at 361-698-1607 for additional information.
