WHEN: 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 28

VISUALS: Presentation of unique Sci-Fi make-up and character designs that Del Mar Drama students have created as part of a final semester project in their stage make-up class. Many of the students will model the characters themselves while some students have volunteers that will be changed into the Sci-Fi characters created through the imagination of the Drama students.
FYI: If you’ve ever watched the show “Project Runway” on Bravo TV, you know how creative and competitive the participants get. You might say that Del Mar College students taking Drama 1341: Stage Make-up are presenting their own “Project Runway” of a sort. Only their creations will feature the make-up designs and costuming you’d expect to see in Star Trek or Babylon 5 episodes or the Star Wars movies.
Called “Project Del Mar,” eight DMC Drama students will “strut their stuff,” along with volunteers, as they show off the Sci-Fi characters they’ve created as their final semester project during presentations on Monday, April 28, in Bartlett Theatre. Instead of judges, the campus community has been invited to view the presentations, ask questions and give feedback about the Sci-Fi characters the students have created.
Students were asked to name their character and write a one-paragraph description about the name they chose and the planet the Sci-Fi character comes from. When designing the make-up and prosthetics techniques for their characters, students must consider line, texture, shape, color, dimension (3-D) and space. Character development not only includes students’ make-up designs but also costumes and head gear.
