Two Del Mar College Students Voted Into Top Two Leadership Positions of International
Honor Society for Business Students
Justin Nauer and Christopher Palfreyman become president and vice president
at national level of Alpha Beta Gamma
Recently, four Del Mar College business majors attended the national convention
of the international business honor society, Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG), in Biloxi,
Ms. The students, who are members of the DMC Alpha Psi Chapter of ABG, returned
to Del Mar College not only with awards but also with some other great news.
Two students, Justin Nauer and Christopher Palfreyman, both computer science
majors, were voted into the top two student leadership positions at the national
level. Nauer, current president of the Del Mar chapter, became the national
student president. Palfreyman, who is a past president of Alpha Psi and now
presidential advisor, was voted in as vice president at the national level.
This is the first time for quite some years that both the national student
president and vice president come from the same college, says Janie Blankenship,
professor of business administration and faculty advisor to Alpha Psi. These
student leaders must direct all the student chapters and encourage participation
and attendance. Justin and Chris plan to be a driving force and set policies
and goals for the national officers, which includes three other delegates.
Additionally, Nauer received the Professor Steve Graham Memorial Award, the
Eva Bobrow Memorial Medallion of Excellence and two certificates for his demonstrated
leadership abilities.
Alpha Psi reporters Belinda Soliz, a hotel/motel management major, and Aaron
Dominguez, a computer science major, also received awards, including a $300
stipend and Best Presentation Award. Their presentation, Excellence in
EducationHead Start, highlighted the clubs community service
activities with the local Head Start program. Alpha Psi adopted two centers
at Navarro and Hillcrest and provided Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and
Easter gifts to 106 children. Currently, the chapter is working on a graduation
party for the three- to five-year-olds involved with the Del Mar students
project.
