Childcare facility and local La Leche League joining forces to educate community as part of World Breastfeeding Week

WHO: Representatives from Del Mar College’s Department of Human Services, including Linda Ard, department chair, and Diane West, director of the Morris L. Lichtenstein, Jr. Center for Early Learning; Rachel Lebowitz with the La Leche League of Corpus Christi; representatives from the Nueces County Community Action Agency Birth-to-Five Head Start program and the Education Service Center Region 2; and parents and children from the campus and general community

WHAT: World Breastfeeding Celebration and Baby Fair

WHEN: 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5

VISUALS:
Parents, especially mothers, sitting through educational sessions that stress the importance and benefits of breastfeeding their infants. Children attending the event with their parents participating in children’s activities and story time. Participants placing bids on items as part of a silent auction to raise funds for the local La Leche League.

FYI: Del Mar College’s Morris L. Lichtenstein, Jr. Center for Early Learning, the La Leche League of Corpus Christi, the Nueces County Community Action Agency Birth-to-Five Head Start program and the Education Service Center Region 2 are joining forces to encourage local mothers to breastfeed their babies. On. Aug. 5, organizers will host a World Breastfeeding Celebration and Baby Fair as part of the national La Leche Leagues recognition of World Breastfeeding Week.

“Breastfeeding gets babies off to a good start,” says Linda Ard, chair of the College’s Department of Human Services, which offers certificates and associate’s degrees in early childhood and child development. “It’s not only beneficial for babies.
